Sunshine Coast / Brisbane Branch of the Japan-Guam-Australia South (JGA-S) Submarine Fiber Optic Cable System Sold
Submarine fiber optic cables carry 99% of the world’s internet. The JGA South cable system, constructed by the RTI Cable Group, runs undersea from Japan to Guam to Australia. JGA South is subject to a Singapore receivership and will eventually transfer to Lightstorm, an affiliate of I-Squared Capital Group, upon regulatory approval. The Sunshine Coast Branch offshoots from the main trunk of the JGA South cable system and is not subject to the receivership. Trepanier Tajima LLP advised the seller upon the sale of the multi-million-dollar Sunshine Coast Brach of the JGA South submarine cable system outside of the receivership process providing significant monetary value to the seller, RTI Connectivity Pte. Ltd. and synergistic value to Lightstorm, the buyer, which also will come to own the closely related JGA-S, JGA North (JGA-N), and South-East Asia Untied States (SEA-US) cable systems.
