Defense Settlement: $20M Suit Against Hospital Settled for $800k

Plaintiff, represented by Gloria Allred, sued our hospital client alleging 16 causes of action (including intentional torts and civil rights violations) and demanded $20 million, including punitive damages. After extensive motion practice and discovery, we obtained dismissals of all causes of action except negligence and struck plaintiff’s claim for punitive damages. After plaintiff’s expert witness made crucial admissions about hospital policies in his deposition, we settled the case for six figures (less than 5% of plaintiff’s prior demand).
